For the reason that they’ll affect the quality of your  trip, mountain bike pedals have a significant impact for a mountain bike However,  they are also the part of a mountain bike which most of the people know hardly anything about.  There are 3 types of mountain bike pedals namely platform, cage style, and clip-less.  Every different type have a direct effect on the way you ride the mountain bike. So, it is  essential for you to choose the ideal mountain bike pedals to have your wonderful bike  riding.

The first kind of mountain bike pedals is platform of the pedals. These types of  mountain bike pedals are used by bike enthutiast everywhere. Platform of the pedals that is also  generally known as the flat style pedals are good for beginners since they can balance themselves  often during their ride or to simply put their foot down quickly to avoid a fall.  On the other hand, these mountain bike pedals cannot be used when you are planning to ride steep or mountain climbs. These pedals aren’t favored by experienced or professional mountain  bike riders as they do not have any extra between the foot, the shoe and the pedal ,  and though this results in a good grip these pedals can’t be used for mountain bike  races or rides on double-crossing terrains.

Another type of mountain bike pedals is cage style pedals. This mountain bike pedals  are supposed to mostly be found on non-branded and inexpensive bicycles. Moreover, the last and the most popular kind of mountain bike pedals particularly among  average and usual cyclists are the clip-less bike pedals. It is because all that you  have to do with them is simply placing your foot on the pedal, clipping it into place and  then carry on with your trip. The advantage from these types of this well preffered  mountain bicycle pedals is that they offer you with a constant connection, it means that you will be  less likely to fall off and your feet is not going to keep slipping off the pedals either.  Moreover, these pedals can result in speed with efficiency and good use of your leg  muscles to generate a powerful crank and get good speed and power while riding. The  clip-less pedals are preferred by well practiced and professional mountain bike riders.
Commonly, the pedals really do affect the way that you are biking. By  changing your mountain bike pedals, you could end up improving your performance.  Therefore, if you are on looking for new pedals, keep in mind the three main types and  come to a decision which one will be better suited to you.

Mens Mountain Bike – A Women’s Model, Why?

July 18th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

Recently I was reading a question about what the difference was between a mens mountain bike and a women’s mountain bike. Several people answered the question about this thing being a little different and that thing being a little bit different, etc. You know things like the handlebars, parts on the frame, grips, brake levers, etc. But one answer made a lot of sense. The answer said that a large number women would purchase a mens mountain bike because the differences are very minor and there is a wider selection and there are many more choices of mens mountain bike versus women’s mountain bikes.

This totally made sense to me. It might have made sense at one time in the past to make a more ‘femine’ bike for women, but today these types of bikes don’t really need to exist anymore. Women now days are every bit as competitive as most men and their physical agility, strength and dimensions are close to and match men in many regards. So why the necessity for two different types of bikes?

Sure, there are some women who are smaller than men, but in the same vein, there are a lot of men who are smaller than many women. In those cases, each of these people who are smaller in general will need to look for a bike that fits their individual size. The same for those that are bigger.

I believe that it makes more sense to manufacture bikes that come in different sizes to match the size of their rider, than trying to separate out the bike depending if you’re a male or a female. It’s time in our society and in our current environment to drop that separation. I think it would be much smarter for the mountain bike manufactures to focus on making bikes that are designed for different sized people, large, small, light, heavy, etc. That way you can have many different models in many different dimensions that will meet the needs of all people, no matter their sex.

Training For Strength On Trek Mountain Bikes

July 18th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

A dangerous yet exciting activity, mountain biking can cover a range of ground from steep inclines to more gentle lowland terrain making for a variety of biking trails. No-one loses from mountain biking; it’s fun, healthy and green – both riders and the countryside benefit. Bike manufacturers themselves are adding further to the industry’s green credentials - Trek mountain bikes for example, are produced in a zero-carbon factory.

The integrity of mountain bikers themselves is also important. The more difficult and dangerous trails are made more manageable by the mountain biker staying healthy. Whilst it’s important to use stamina to complete trails, as most bikers who own a machine from the range of Trek mountain bikes will no doubt already be aware, physical body strength is also essential.

Maintaining body strength and weight is vital to ensure mountain bikers remain in control of their bikes in dangerous situations. It helps them to ‘stay loose’, meaning that they retain the ability to react and ride freely through difficult obstacles and terrain, without losing control.

There are many ‘bodyweight exercises’ that can be undertaken to achieve improved physical strength, the easiest and simplest being push-ups and pull-ups. The aspirational rider of Trek mountain bikes however can do no wrong by using a work-out process rather than just these simple techniques. Riders of Trek mountain bikes, aspirational as they usually are, may do well to complete a true work-out programme however, rather than these basic routines.

Taking the advice of a fitness instructor is a good idea, and there are numerous books on the subject from recognised mountain biking professionals like John Metcalfe. Also, following big manufacturers’ teams in brand sponsored events, such as Trek World Racing to see how the professionals themselves prepare for events and tournaments is a good idea.

Being the owner of a bike like those from the range of Trek mountain bikes is quite something, however, learning to be fit to enjoy riding it is quite another.

Orbea Mountain Bikes Expands Bike Helmets Choice

July 17th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

In order to protect the cyclist’s head, one of the most important parts of mountain biking safety is to wear a bike helmet. 2010 has seen new bike helmet ranges for sale, such as those from Orbea mountain bikes, making helmet choice an important consideration for those parting with their money.

When choosing a bike helmet to purchase, there are some basic but important things to remember.

You should make sure first of all that your chin is not uncomfortable and that the helmet fits snugly on the head. The helmet should fit without causing pressure points – usually on most quality helmets you can adjust the internal strapping to make sure your head fits the helmet properly. If you’re unfortunate enough to have an accident, then you don’t want your helmet to move out of place - Orbea mountain bikes have a way to prevent this using their ergonomic retention system.

Next, check that the helmet is made from good quality materials and that together with its design, it offers the best protection whilst allowing air to circulate freely around your head. Most modern helmets are designed with strength, weight and comfort in mind. Orbea mountain bikes for example, use a system they call Orbea Air Flow, which is specifically designed to keep the head cool by improving ventilation between the head and the helmet.

Lastly, make sure that the mountain bike helmet you do buy conforms to the minimum safety standards. Proof of this can usually be found on the helmet itself, in the form of a CE mark. Doubts about the safety standards of a mountain bike helmet can be addressed by a quality bike dealer, who is recommended by a manufacturer like Orbea mountain bikes.

Always seek professional help when chosing Orbea accessories such as bike helmets and Orbea mountain bikes before you spend your money.

Mountain Biking Safety - Trek Mountain Bikes

July 16th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

In the age of global warming, dangerous but carbon-clean pursuits such as mountain biking are ever popular and the number of bikes to choose from is enormous. Some bikes are so technologically advanced that they even come with a full-suspension, such as those in the enviable range of Trek mountain bikes.

Mountain bikes are used for off-road racing, mountain biking competitions and tournaments and many families take them on holidays. By their very name, mountain bikes are ridden off-road and in dangerous and difficult countryside for the rider’s excitement. Strength, agility and a comfy ride are all important to models likeTrek mountain bikes, but safety is as equally important. A mountain bike that is built properly should be able to contend with those moments when the rider descends across tricky terrain or uneven land - in these situations, it’s important that the rider can maintain control of the bike safely.

Safety should always be encouraged because mountain biking can be a very dangerous activity. The most important things that can be done by the rider to keep safe are to wear the correct gear, including cycling helmets, and to learn how to control the mountain bike safely.

Knowing your abilities and limits is as important as understanding the trail and terrain on which you’re biking. Trails that are unfamiliar can catch riders out, and so mountain bikers should take heed of the saying ‘practice makes perfect’ before pushing their experience beyond that with which they are comfortable.

It’s obvious but important to choose the correct bike in the first place. Dealers selling reputable models such as Trek mountain bikes will be able to give good advice and should be consulted when making a purchase.

It’s high likely that you could end up spending a lot of your hard-earned money on the wrong equipment if you fail to get good advice.

Mens Mountain Bike – Do You Need Two?

July 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

Recently I was at a car race and noticed that some of the drivers had two cars. That was to protect them, in case one car was damaged, that they had a backup. So I got to thinking, do people need two if they already have one mens mountain bike? I guess if you’re into mountain bike competitions, two make sense, but what if you’re just the average Joe who wants to have fun on the weekends?

So if you’re into racing people have the exact same car or bike, but for the average rider, having two sets of the exact same bike really isn’t necessary. But what does make sense is having two different mountain bikes. We all know that depending on where you are going to ride, the conditions can be drastically different and we all know that certain bike configurations are much better in different conditions.

So if you are the type of person who likes to ride in many different locations that have very different terrains, then having two different bikes makes total sense. So the question then is, do you go very different or just a little bit different? It seems to me that you should go extremely different. That is, from the bike frame material, to the handle bar types, to the size of the tires, etc. My thinking is that if the bikes are only slightly different they won’t make much difference from your different surroundings. But having a totally different bike will make a difference and allow you to have a bike that meets your needs when you’re in a very steep hilly section versus a more flat surface.

But, you’re the only one who knows what is best for you. So take some time, figure out the different places you ride now and/or want to ride in the future and then figure out the best bike configurations that would meet those conditions and then decide what are the two bikes (or second bike) to get.

The Tattoo That Jim Got Of His Bike

July 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

Jim loved biking and everyone knew that he was going to one day enter into some of the bike races that he watched on television. His job that he currently had though would not allow him to have any time off to go to the races. He knew that he was going to have to leave the job sooner or later though and knew that today would be a great time to do that.

He walked into his bosses office and threw down his letter of resignation. He finally had enough money saved up to get that mongoose mountain bike he had been eyeing for several months now. That bike was the one that he was going to use to ride to the races finish lines all the time. He knew that when he got that he could start racing with that bike, but the job would have to go.

Jim’s boss started begging and pleading with him to stay at least until they were able to find a replacement for him. Jim told him that his mind was already made up that he was going to leave. His boss tried to sweeten his salary for him by offering him all the time off that he needed and tried to convince him that he would give him some free diamondback bikes to use as well.

Jim told him that he would have to think the offer over for a while and would let him know before the end of the day. The problem was that Jim could really use the extra money that his boss was offering him and the extra bikes would definitely help him out.

Jim decided that he would stay at the job if his boss would put it in writing the promise of time off for the races, but also that he would get the bikes. He explained that to his boss and he shook his head and motioned for the secretary to jot the notes down. She wrote them down and then all three of them signed the papers each one getting a copy of the note with the original going to Jim.

He was feeling happy at the end of the day as he walked out of the company. So happy that he had a case of tattoo fever and knew what exactly he was going to get. He headed into the stop with a design of his favorite bike on it and told the artist that he wanted that on his back.

The tattoo did not really cost him as much as he thought it was going to. So he still had enough money to go the bike shop to look for the model that he wanted to own. As he walked out of the store later that night he knew that he had made the proper choice in the one model. He also knew that he was going to be able to win some races after he got back into racing shape.

The Biking Adventure In The Woods

July 12th, 2010    Subscribe To Our Feed

Jane rode her bike down the backside of the hill knowing that she was having a great time. She would wait for John to catch up with her before she continued because the hills only got steeper. John started cresting the hill and coasted to a stop next to her and took a long drag off of his water bottle.

They decided that they would take the mongoose mountain bike down the hill first to see how it handled the steepness. Once they reached the bottom then they would take off towards the lake that was shimmering in the distance. They knew that would make a great relaxing stop for them to enjoy the relaxing ride they were on.

John decided that he would bike ahead a little bit because he thought that he saw a road up ahead. That would definitely make the biking a little bit easier and would stop jarring all the picnic food around. He just hoped that he would find a road before it was to late.

Jane spotted the road to and knew that the diamondback bikes would be doing much better for them, but he had insisted on these. However, she knew that the ones she had would have the better suspension to handle the stresses of the landscape they had just been riding over.

When they reached the road John knew that it would only be a few more minutes to reach the area they had saved. He knew that they would enjoy a wonderful lunch and some time relaxing to the sounds of the waves lapping on the beach before heading back to the cabin they lived in.

Jane was packing up the lunch that they had brought with them when John decided that it was time to give her the gift. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a brand new paid of pearl izumi shorts. They were the ones that she had been eyeing on the store for at least the last six months if not longer, but John finally decided to get them for her.

As Jane turned around she seen what John was holding in his hand and about fainted she was so happy. However, she knew that the ride back home would be a long one. She could not wait that long to try out the new items and decided that she was going to change right then and there for the trip home.
